India
India’s monsoon rains are stored in a series of ponds throughout the watershed, ranging in size from 10 acres down to community water tanks. The water is used for multiple purposes throughout the year, including aquaculture for both food and aquarium fish, irrigation of high-value fruit, vegetable, and grain crops, and daily household use for small, rural villages.
India is in a unique position, with first-world knowledge and the ability to apply that knowledge successfully in third-world nations. That made India a primary candidate to help out when Putnam County Extension Director Edsel Redden began looking for logical partners to assist with a project that is providing high-protein foods to young Haitian children, age four through the fourth grade.
